About Robin Michelle Wilson
Transformational Leader and Powerful Motivational Speaker
A native of Inkster, Michigan, Robin Michelle Wilson is a teacher, poet, nonprofit consultant, motivational speaker, and the author of the children’s book Mama Got Rhythm and Daddy Got Rhyme. Robin’s feature articles have appeared in Successful Black Parenting Magazine, The Michigan Chronicle, The New Citizens Press, and other publications.
In 2011, she was one of several local children’s authors selected to participate in Panera Bread Family Fun Days, a Panera Bread partnership with Early Learning Communities, a United Way for Southeastern Michigan (UWSEM) initiative, which provides free educational activities and information for children and their parents on the second Saturday of each month during the school year.
At age 23, she became the youngest Leanna Hicks Public Library commissioner appointed by the Inkster City Council to serve two consecutive terms. She is the founder of The Josie Odum Morris Literacy Project, an Inkster-based adult literacy nonprofit organization, named in honor of her late grandmother, who was an educator.
She has served as the education director for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland and Macomb Counties ‘field Zone unit in Southfield, MI, where she was a pioneer in educational programming and a champion for youth.
Robin is the author of the “P3 Principle: Living on purpose, with passion, and having a plan,” an original series of articles and youth empowerment videos that she created for the Nurturing Wellness Group Foundation, a national nonprofit youth service organization.
Wilson has a special gift for reaching women and young people. For this reason, she is often asked to speak at educational institutions, organizations, and leadership conferences. She has led discussions on diversity and inclusion, literacy, second language learning, nonprofit organizational development, and youth leadership development locally and nationally.
She is the founder and CEO of Robin Wilson Educational Consulting LLC, a Michigan-based nonprofit consulting business. Known as the resolute strategist for her intentionality and ability to effectively plan and achieve quality outcomes for individuals and organizations, Robin has more than 10 years of experience working in Inkster, Michigan, and surrounding communities on literacy initiatives. Robin has worked directly with people from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Specifically, she has taught English as a second language, as well as trained adults of various cultures, to become community leaders, literacy tutors, and responsible citizens. Robin has taught English in Lambesc, France, through the InterExchange Program and she has a passion for the French language and promoting diversity in cultural immersion programs.
In 2018, she presented her academic research on French foreign language immersion in an urban context: A culturally responsive approach to teaching French to African-American kindergarten students at the Michigan Reading Association Conference in Detroit, MI.
Wilson has received numerous accolades for her leadership and professional accomplishments, including a Spirit of Detroit Award and Young People For Fellowship (YP4) for her ongoing commitment to education and social justice work. In 2009, she was selected as an Echoing Green Semi-Finalist for her innovative ideas around family literacy programming. Additionally, she is the recipient of the Wayne County NAACP’s Excellence in Leadership Award.
Robin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. In 2018, she made history as the first African American woman from the University of Michigan-Dearborn to advance and be selected as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Alternate Candidate to teach in Senegal, West Africa, by the United States Fulbright Program.
Currently, Robin teaches first grade at a foreign language immersion school in Detroit, MI. She also serves as a citizen diplomat for Global Ties Detroit. She is a compassionate leader with a passion for uplifting and inspiring young people to lead and thrive.
